The 5 Elements in Chinese Metaphysics: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water

The Foundation of Chinese Metaphysics

The Five Elements (Wu Xing) form the cornerstone of all Chinese metaphysical studies. These elements - Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water - are not just physical substances but represent different types of energy and their cyclical transformations.

The Productive Cycle

Wood feeds Fire → Fire creates Earth (ash) → Earth produces Metal → Metal carries Water → Water nourishes Wood

The Controlling Cycle

Wood penetrates Earth → Earth dams Water → Water extinguishes Fire → Fire melts Metal → Metal chops Wood

Understanding these cycles is essential for BaZi analysis, Feng Shui remedies, and date selection.
